The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross, with its mini-SUV style and available hybrid powertrain option, seems ready to take on the minivan cross-over segment in not only America but other parts of the world. A 169-horsepower four-cylinder engine lies under the hood, which can be paired with either front or all-wheel drive. Toyota does not yet offer this hybrid powertrain in North America
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross is a new addition to the Toyota SUV lineup. Coming in between the smaller C-HR and larger RAV4, it’s similar as most other cars in its class. The new Corolla Cross borrows both interior and exterior styling cues from the current Corolla and Hatchback models. However, we expect an increase in cargo space, as well as a taller driving position. The car will go on sale at dealerships by the end of this year.
What’s New ?
For those who still see the Corolla as Toyota’s mainstream passenger vehicle, it might come as a surprise that there is more to the lineup than just the sedan and hatchbacks.
Toyota has not commented on the pricing of their newest SUV at this point, but it will come in three different levels. Toyota has not yet provided details on pricing for the new cross-over along with which optional features will be a part of each trim level.
How About Interior ?
Although we haven’t had the opportunity to sit inside the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross, its exterior is larger than that of both the C-HR and Hatchback models. The layout of this airplane should give passengers and cargo more space.
Take a look at this dashboard on our latest photos. You’ll notice that it is lined with faux leather, the interior is lit by ambient lighting, and there’s even what looks like an optional sunroof. Power-adjustable seat controls will also be optional in addition to heated seats on both the front and driver’s side.
How About Performance ?
The Corolla Cross will come standard with a 169-hp 2.0L 4cylinder engine and continuously variable automatic transmission. All Corolla Cross models will be front wheel drive, but all wheel drive can be purchased as an upgrade.
Although this engine is less powerful than most, it will provide adequate performance and good fuel economy. The Toyota Corolla Cross is equipped with a hybrid powertrain in other global markets. However, for now the North American version of this car will stick with this non-hybrid, standard engine. With Toyota’s long history in producing hybrid vehicles, we wouldn’t be surprised if a hybrid variant makes its way to the United States at some point. The Toyota Corolla Cross can tow up to 1500 lbs.
