The all-new 2023 Acura TLX Type S aims to win back the performance image it once helped Honda’s luxury brand. Coming in 2023, this comeback will include a stylized design that resembles its concept car and a resurrection of the revered Type S nameplate for high-performance versions. While it will have a powerful turbo V-6 engine, the standard model also comes with its tried and true turbocharged four-cylinder. Acura also offers every model with its effective SH-AWD, which is near ubiquitous in their lineup. The 2023 Acura TLX Type S improves upon its ride and handling with a dedicated platform and more sophisticated chassis. The new interior, on the other hand, is snazzier to improve against competitors such as BMW 3-Series and Cadillac CT5.
What’s New ?
Acura has completely redesigned its most popular sedan for the 2023 vehicle lineup. The new generation of the product is more exciting that the previous one because they wanted to make it faster than before. A sports sedan is distinguished by its long, low design and powerful engines. It also has an updated SH-AWD system to maximize performance. Acura has reintroduced the Type S to its lineup for the first time since 2008, and are planning to expand availability of this type of car for other models in their lineup.
With excellent value when compared to competitors, one of the best aspects of the new 2023 TLX is that you can also get it at a cheaper base price. Choosing to have the Advance or A-Spec package will mean that we are stuck with 18-inch wheels, and will miss out on many of the other features which come with these upgrades. This choice is $7550 more expensive than if we choose not to opt in for either. The Technology package is a tempting purchase, boasting 19-inch wheels and hardwood flooring as well as several features. For this price, we recommend the SH-AWD system to help maximize agility and all-weather traction.
How About Perfomance
The type of engine in the standard TLX is a 2.0L 4-cylider that produces 272hp and has 10 speeds. All Acura cars with four-cylinder engines are front-wheel drive, but all Acura models with six- and eight- cylinder engines come standard with the company’s SH-AWD AWD system. Unfortunately, the curb weight of our test car seemed to impact acceleration times. It took the car 5.9 seconds to hit 60 mph – slower than we expected and even a bit behind other sedans in its class. Still, the 2023 Acura TLX Type S impressive chassis tuning made it a joy to drive and proved that Acura is still capable of producing a high-end sports sedan. The high performance Type S has a 3.0 liter V-6 with 355 horsepower and 10 speeds; the Prestige P3 will have a 3.3 liter twin turbo direct fuel injected V-6 with 320 horsepower and 8 speed automatic; also worth noting is the hybrid powertrain that can take care of all your needs. Rather than the regular TLX which can only be equipped with summer tires on bigger wheels, this version is available with stickier rubber and smaller 20-inch wheels for improved mobility. It has a firm ride that masks road imperfections, but it felt vast more nimble than competitors who are shorter and sportier such as the Audi S4.
How About Interior
The interior of the 2023 Acura TLX Type S is expressive, emphasizing its sporty character. Features such as attractive analog gauges and a prominent rotary drive-mode selector contribute to this look. The TLX, built with excellent Acura standards and nice cabin materials, such as open-pore wood, also offers a luxurious feel from side to side. Although it has spacious seats in terms of width, they are more compact than some competitors. The TLX has a number of ergonomic features which are great for driver comfort. One example is the car’s adjustable front seats, as well as excellent visibility in the forward direction. The car also comes with many various interior colors and desirable features such as leather upholstery. In addition to a 10.5-inch head up display screen and customizable ambient lighting, the new car also has “Pacific Coast” and “Suzuka” modes.
Is the Acura TLX a good-looking car?
The new design of the TLX could be one of its greatest strengths when it comes to attracting customers. With a longer dash-to-axle ratio, this car takes on the appearance of a rear wheel or all drive sedan with its long hood and short deck, which is made even more apparent with wide shoulders in both front and back.
The 2023 Acura TLX Type S sports a sharper, more angular shape than its predecessor’s. The nose is larger and pulls the other parts of the car forward to create a focus around the rear grille that hints at tension in both design and use.
Along the sides, one could think that the TLX would be a rear-wheel drive with its short front and long rear. The interior also hints at this preference as it reaches back towards a rear decklid and stretched window line which is not seen in other cars of this size. The door handles go from the front to the back of the car, which makes it look like a sprinter in a starting position.
Around back, you’ll find a high trunk lid spoiler perched over the wide taillights and quad-tipped finishers that appear on the Type S model.
The 2023 Acura TLX Type S interior is framed by a cleaner shape that has modernised the car’s design. So we made sure to include features like our infotainment screen, which sits at eye-level for easy use. The center-mounted, push-button shifter handles input from the 10-speed automatic transmission, using a rotary knob for driving modes in the center. It’s not quite as large as it would be if used in an NSX, but nevertheless takes up precious space.
