There’s a lot in the way of luxury that falls short of showy opulence, but you’ll find a manageable blend if you’ve got your sights set on an 2023 Acura ILX. Under the hood there’s a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 24 valves and 211 horsepower driving the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic. While the ILX won’t accelerate in a straight line as quickly as some of its turbocharged competition, it is a more comfortable vehicle for those looking for comfort over speed.
One of the ILX’s shortcomings is its out-dated technology, starting with what is laughably last century, especially considering the base model doesn’t come with a touchscreen. The 2022 ILX is a refreshed model, but it needs a complete makeover in order to remain competitive.
Is a Good Redesign Car?
2023 Acura ILX is a subpar car, inside and out. The redesign interior materials are low quality, indicative of the lower tier it falls in many buyers’ estimation. Additionally, the infotainment system is difficult to use with complicated dual screens that have too much going on.
Compared to other luxury small cars, cargo space is merely average but leg room in the rear seats is tight. Acceleration and handling are fine, but the ILX performs poorly compared with similar luxury car models.
The 2023 Acura ILX is built on the previous-generation Civic platform, so it feels agile and zippy. The acceleration comes next-gen from a naturally aspirated engine and a dual-clutch automatic transmission that optimizes gear changes for smoothness.
The sporty 2023 Acura ILX is surprisingly smooth and quiet for its small size. Front seat comfort is bolstered by proper legroom, but it’s limited in head room due to the curved roof line.
Some concept details, like the absence of split-folding second-row seats, a button-riddled center console and confusing infotainment system make the ILX difficult to use. But it’s comfortable and fun to drive which is enough for now. We’re just gonna have to wait for the next-gen ILX with Type S.
Changes Interior Quality
The 2023 Acura ILX has a trunk capacity of 12.4 cubic feet, average for the changes general luxury small car class. A folding backseat is standard and allows you to carry longer items in the event an individual can’t fold down one side of their seat.
The ILX sedan provides a comfortable cabin for the driver and front-seat passenger with side bolstering. It has ample room in the back seat, too; like most cars, it is suited best for four adults or two adults and three children.
In the back, taller riders may not have enough headroom; and for changes a sedan in this class, the ILX redesign has an inadequate amount of legroom.
The middle seat has a dedicated tether anchor, and is the only rear passenger seat with LATCH connectors.
The lower anchors are set in the base, but it is still easy to maneuver your hands around them and attach the car-seat straps with little effort. This has led to a rating of “acceptable” in ease of installation from an organization that rates such things.
While the interior features a sophisticated design, its hard plastic on several surfaces can feel bare and lackluster. And while there’s not much noise without road or wind around, moderate levels of these may become noticeable.
Compared to most new cars on the market, the ILX has minimal infotainment tech standard. The display size is only 5 inches and everything is controlled individually from buttons on the center console.
Vs Mercedes-Benz CLA
Mercedes design team has fundamentally revised the CLA’s mechanism for 2020, and now, it is available in both a peppy build engine as well as two 300+ HP AMG design. The ILX is less expensive, The CLA is slimmer and more powerful than many other sedans on the market. The Acura may be cheaper, but the luxury interior and user-friendliness cannot compare to the Benz.
Vs Honda Civic
The Honda Civic is a sporty and high-ranking compact car for which enthusiasts may choose from the base engine or an optional turbocharged model. The top of the line Hond Type R is also available. The Honda Civic is a better deal for budget-conscious buyers, and it offers more cargo space compared to the 2023 Acura ILX.

ILX A-Spec $32,875
Among subcompact luxury sedans, the ILX is a great deal. We recommend getting either the Premium or Technology Package to optimize for value. The ILX upgrades provide luxurious features such as leather seats, superior infotainment features, a multitude of driver assists, and the most high-end audio system. A-Spec package appearance of better performance is simply an illusion, this kit only provides superficial changes that are not worth the cost.
The 2023 ILX is a compact sedan, and it has been in the Acura lineup for a long time. In 2022, Acura announced that they will be releasing an updated version of their ILX model. The release date for this new car was set for September 2022.
